Another victory for The Stones in The County Cup. Sunday 18th November
Scorers Maria Ward, Imogen Raddon, Catia Campos & Rosie Watts
Wealdstone Ladies were hoping to keep their unbeaten run going with a County Cup victory over Guildford Saints today. Our very own ‘Bend it like Beckham’ Star Maria Ward scored her first goal of the season with a well placed shot from inside the box to put The Stones a goal up against against Guildford Saints. Our second goal came minutes later with a ball pumped forward by Giovanna Monachello to Imogen Raddon who used her speed to get in front of The Saints defender to chip their keeper from 20 yards. Captain Catia Campos got her chance when she picked up a loose ball from a badly cleared ball from a Saints defender, she then played a neat one two with Imogen and calmly slotted the ball passed their keeper to go three up in under 15 minutes. Wealdstone Ladies then took their foot of the gas and begun to give Guildford Saints hope and chances to get back into this match. The Stones were cruising, playing a long ball game as they sloppily missed chances upon chances with badly made decisions and being found offside on numerous occasions. With 43 minutes on the clock Guildford Saints pulled a goal back after a mistake from midfield. Half Time score Wealdstone Ladies 3-1. The dressing room talk from Manager Gary was to outline the way we should play the second half. play football with short passes (which we did in the first 20 miniutes of the match). Pass and move and show to feet. Not worried if we don’t score another goal, just keep it tight at the back.
Second half started nervously for The Stones as Rosie had a goal disallowed for off side as the game began to open up. The Saints hit our crossbar from a corner kick as they searched for their second goal. With Catia and Rosie forcing their keeper to make some great saves. Finally persistence paid off for Rosie who was rewarded with a goal to make it 4-1 and put The Stones into the hat for the next round of the County Cup. With five minutes to go Captain Catia, came off with an Achilles injury.
What I liked about today was our defence, who got very annoyed with themselves for conceding the goal, as they had gone from a goal difference of minus eleven, to plus Nine with an unbeaten run of five games. First goals of the season for Maria, Imogen & Captain Catia.
Player of the match was awarded to Rosie for not giving up and playing with the Flu.

With Wealdstone Ladies looking for their fourth victory of the season as we welcomed Pauldy to our squad. Still missing are Amy and Courtney due to injury. The game started tentatively, The Stones gave Brentford plenty of respect as they had a few shots from outside our box in order to test our keeper Harlee  who dealt with without any problems. As we settled into our own play, passing the ball well, Rosie had her shot saved by The Brentford Keeper only to have Sonyia at hand to get the rebound. Stones 1-0 up after ten mins. The Stones got their 3rd with a well taken corner from Catia in which Rosie effortlessly headed the ball on target to make it 3-0 with 20 mins gone.  With further Brentford attacks dealt comfortably by our inform defence. Game stopped play for a number of minutes due to a Brentford player down with a head injury. Play resumed until the halftime whistle. Half time team talk from manager Gary was to keep a clean sheet, 2nd half changes with Pauldy and Natalie replacing Imogen and Maria. Wealdstone Ladies carried on where they left off and it was Pauldy’s first shot on goal that made it 4-0. Reigate WFC v Wealdstone Ladies Sunday 21st October
Reigate WFC 1 – 6 Wealdstone Ladies
Scorers Courtney Munns x2 (1 pen) Katie Harling x2 Rosie Watts x2
What a contrast in the weather from last week, the sun was shining in the sky, as the game kicked off and Courtney opened up the scoring on our first attack. Followed by Katie Harling knocking in our second, with just seven minutes gone. What happened for the remaining half was disappointing as ‘The Stones’  wasted chance after chance looking to score their third as Reigate frustrated and hassled them as every opportunity.   Half-time talk was simple, keep a clean sheet and we’ve won the game. Not five minutes into the second half The Stones give away a direct free kick on the edge of the 18yd box. seconds later Harlee is picking the ball out of the back of her net. 1-2 game on. The game began to get sloppy with passes going astray and clumsy challenges from both sides which ended in a player from both teams being sent off, with only twenty minutes to play. This seamed to be the catalyst for Wealdstone Ladies to start to play football and Katie took control of a lose ball from 20 yds out to blast into the goal giving their keeper no chance. 1-3. from then on it was all Wealdstone. Catia was brought down in the box and Courtney stepped up to take the penalty. She made no mistake and made it 1-4. with ten to go ‘super sub’ Rosie was brought on and scored from the get-go. 1-5. Rosie quickly added her second in the closing minute to end the game 1-6.
The Stones had the perfect start and should have wrapped up the match, but got bogged down in not playing to our strengths. Too many chances going a miss throughout. Our back four were outstanding, Holly and Nicole marshalling the defence into action when needed. Catia carried on from where she left off last week. Ultimately paying the price for being hacked down time and time again as the opposition couldn’t deal with her. Courtney once again was our set play specialist and Rosie being our super sub, but it was Katie Harling who took her opportunities well and was awarded Player of the Match for her efforts.
Wealdstone Ladies v Larkspur Rovers Sunday 14th October
Wealdstone Ladies 3-0 Larkspur Rovers
Scorers Courtney Munns x2 Rosie Watts
It was lovely weather for ducks, as continuous overnight rain did it’s best to call this important match off. With ’72 Films’ poised to record this momentous occasion against a side built mainly on ex-Wealdstone players who left our club for better opportunities. Manager Gary Harling reminded our ladies that they should go out and enjoy the match and build on last weeks victory with the little hint of a suggestion that showing that the opposition had made a serious mistake to leave us. Unfortunately we couldn’t have had a worse start with captain Amy Murphy coming off in agony with a serious injury to her knee after only five minutes of play. The match restarted after a delay of around 20 minutes. Courtney scored a great goal to put The Stones one up as we continued to play very well. Second half kicked off and we got into our stride early as Courtney got her second. The Stones added their third. We defended well with our solid back four of Katie Harling, Holly Robinson, Nicole Che Yee and Giovanna Monachello. Our keeper Harlee O’raw pulled off some wonderful saves to keep her second consecutive clean sheet. Player of the Match was awarded to Catia Campos who returned after missing last weeks action. Catia controlled, orchestrated and commanded our mid-field displaying her footballing skills to entertain our biggest crowd of the season (52). We wish our captain Amy a speedy recovery from her dislocated knee. Next week we are in action in the Capital Women’s Cup as we travel to play Reigate Women FC
