We faced the long trek across London to play League leaders Tower Hamlets, knowing a win would put us in the box seat for the
title, with our two games in hand. The wind was to play a big part in a scrappy first half, Katie won the toss and we decided
to kick into the gale knowing that we would have the wind in our backs for the second half. We started very poorly and
struggled to get out of our half, but our goal was leading a charmed life, Hamlets took a deserved lead with a fine long range
wind assisted strike, before a pin point corner was met on the volley by Lauren Hole who drew us level, Tower Hamlets scored
another long range strike to go in 2-1 up at the break.
The Stones knew the second half would be easier but directly after the break Hamlets increased their lead to make it 3-1. The
Stones with the League on the line, then took the game by the scruff of the neck showing great tenacity and promptly got back
in the game thanks to Annie Hewitt and lauren Hole, the game was now being played in the Hamlets half as The Stones pressed
and two more goals came to give us a vital win. Annie scored with another unstoppable free kick and Lauren completed her
hattrick. The game finished and both teams had put on a good game in awful conditions. One more win from our last Three games
will bring the Ladies the title in their first season at senior level.
A vital three points in testing conditions, keeping it tight in the first half and changing formation in the second half, was
order of the day. A special mention to Chloe McCarthy today, as she came all the way from Great Yarmouth to help us out and
played very well indeed, but goals win games and in Lauren and Annie we have two top class finishers who continue to perform
at a very high standard, regardless of the opposition. A massive thanks to all our parents and supporters who traveled, arrived
on time and cheered us to the win.
