Ocean x1, Savanna x1, Nneka x1 Chloe J x1
Back on the road again this week for The Russell Cup tie against the current Div 2 South League leaders. We welcomed Chloe J into the fold today on her road to recovery after a long term injury. A solid start was required after last weeks disappointing result but this didn’t materialise, and we conceded within 1 minute of the start 1-0. Our hosts continued to pile on the pressure and to be honest we had no answer to it. Aided by some shambolic defending, we found ourselves out of the game at half time 7-1 down with Ocean gaining our only goal with a good finish.
Mick read the riot act during the break, and we went out for the second half looking to restore some sort of pride to our performance. Savannah lively all game, grabbed a goal for us on the break, but like a game of basketball, Victoire went straight up the other end and made it 8-2. The Stones dug in once again, and after a series of chances, Nneka reduced the arrears 8-3. Not to be denied the home side scored next, and once again we failed to defend properly from a set piece 9-3. Minutes later Chloe J who had settled well into the game up until now showed a touch of class for us, picking up the ball outside their box, she span and rifled the ball into the top corner 9-4 with 20 mins to go. Creating chances we looked to finish the game strongly, but after missing a host of these we capitulated in the last 10 minutes. Victoire rubbed salt in the wounds, adding three more goals to condone us to our worst result that I can remember 11-4 full time.
Without holding back today we never or rarely competed with our opponents, who were vastly more experienced than us and more committed. Our defending at times was laughable, and until we can put out eleven players who want to improve for the club this will continue. Credit to Victoire, who done a real job on us, although physical and direct they also played some great football and were deserved winners. Well done ladies good luck in the next round.
